Electrical Installation Condition Reports
An Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) is a comprehensive assessment of the safety and condition of electrical installations in a building. The report identifies any potential hazards or defects, and provides recommendations for remedial action.
What is an EICR?
An EICR – Electrical Installation Condition Report, is a periodic inspection report on a property’s safety relating to its fixed wiring.
EICRs were otherwise known as fixed wire tests, and are required by regulation to take place every year. The EICR should always be conducted by a professional, to ensure that all of your installations are safe and are not potentially fire or electric shock risks.
Why do I need an EICR?
An EICR is required to ensure the safety of electrical installations and comply with legal requirements, in accordance with The Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974.
Regulations place a duty on employers to ensure the safety of their employees and anyone else who may be affected by their work. The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 require that electrical installations be safe through means of regular maintenance, inspection and testing. Insurance companies may require an EICR to ensure that the electrical installations in a building are safe and comply with legal requirements.
How does an EICR benefit your business?
The main purpose of the EICR is to investigate and show any factors that could impair the safety of the installation. Having reliable safety information that you can act upon is a valuable resource.
Cost savings: By identifying potential problems and recommending remedial action, an EICR can save building owners money on repairs and reduce the risk of costly accidents or downtime.
Peace of mind: An EICR provides assurance that electrical installations in a building are safe and functioning correctly, giving building occupants and owners peace of mind.
Improved safety: An EICR can identify potential hazards and defects in electrical installations, reducing the risk of accidents, fires and damage to your building, staff or customers.
Compliance with regulations: An EICR can ensure that electrical installations comply with legal requirements, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
